Bio-inspired life-like motile materials systems: Changing the boundaries between living and technical systems in the Anthropocene

A current trend observed in the Anthropocene is search for bioinspired solutions. Since it became possible to change quality of boundary between living and technical systems, more life-like products have been developed recent years. Using five plant-inspired developments motile systems architecture soft-robotics, we show how undulates, shifts, perforates, blurs, or dissolves with increasing life-likeness. We discuss what causes theses changes this contributes overall aim achieve higher resilience, robustness, improved esthetics products. Inspiration from that make efficient economic use materials energy are fully recyclable after “service time” may additionally contribute sustainable material use, one major challenges Anthropocene.
